June 2024 DBEDT Visitor Satisfaction and Activity Survey: A Safe and Satisfying Destination for Visitors

According to the latest Visitor Satisfaction and Activity Survey, visitors from the United States, Canada, Japan, Oceania, Korea, and China see Hawai‘i as a safe and secure destination. The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism's Q4 2023 survey reveals some key insights.

High Satisfaction Rates

• Over 95% of visitors from each region felt that Hawai‘i met or exceeded their expectations.
• 89.6% of visitors from the U.S. East and Canada rated their trip as “excellent.”
• 87.5% from the U.S. West, 83.9% from Korea, 78.6% from Japan, and 78.5% from Oceania shared similar sentiments.

Safety Ratings

• More than 90% of visitors from all markets rated Hawai‘i as “excellent” or “above average” in safety.
• Specific ratings include 99.0% from Canada, 97.8% from the U.S. East, and 97.8% from the U.S. West.

Likelihood of Return

• 58% of visitors from all markets are “very likely” to return in the next five years.
• Leading the way are visitors from the U.S. West at 82.6%.
• 73.5% from Korea, 65.4% from the U.S. East, and 58.6% from Japan also expressed a high likelihood of returning.
